Fanlisting
What exactly is a fanlisting? Well, according to TAFL a fanlisting is a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject.
About
Saotome Ranma is the main male/female character of the all time popular and wonderful animanga, Ranma ½. Why do I say male/female? Because Ranma is cursed to change into a female when doused in cold water and back to his original male form with hot water. It wasn't always so though, it all started on a training trip to China with his father. His father, being cheap, buys the guidebook in Chinese (which he cannot understand) and chooses to ignore the warnings from the guide as they train in a little place called Jusenkyo. Each spring on the legendary Jusenkyo ground has something that drowned in it, a tragic story, and a curse upon whoever falls in one to take the form of the thing that drowned in it. So yes, Ranma just 'happened' to fall into the spring of the drowned girl - and his father into the spring of the drowned panda.
To make matters worse, before they can even begin to search for a cure; Ranma's father drags them back to Japan so he can meet his financé, Tendou Akane, a tomboy who hates men. Which is ok, since Ranma is half girl anyway, or not. So Ranma and his father move into the Tendou Dojo and try to live normal lives, which isn't easy considering that Ranma has a financé who hates him, three more who love him too much, one man who is madly in love with his female form, martial artists everywhere who want to kill him and his curse to deal with every day.
Why
Why do I love Ranma? Simple. Because he is one of the most interesting, sentimental, sincere, strongest, and most hilarious characters that I've ever seen. Although he has an ego the size of Japan, Ranma is surprisingly perceptive (about most things) and devoted to his friends and family. As a martial artist he is always trying to better himself and refuses to lose. But he isn't perfect though, and that's another thing that makes his character believable. He can be rude and insensitive as well as has a hard time expressing his emotions - which causes his a lot of problems on the financé front.
But despite that all, I still adore his character to death and still believe him to be one of the greatest anime characters ever created. Ironically, when I first got into anime way back in the Sailor Moon craze, Ranma ½ was one of the many animes that I refused to touch. Why? Probably because of the entire Ranma girl changing into boy thing. I never saw the series and only had read a couple of not so flattering reviews. So I let my opinion be that way until after I became a fan of Inuyasha about four years ago. I liked Inuyasha and decided to go ahead and try Ranma ½ just to see what it was like. Immediently, Ranma ½ replaced Inuyasha as my favorite anime and has been for the most part ever since. From that time on, Ranma has been one of my favorite anime characters ever.
